Job Seeker’s Confidence Remains Low

The job market is tough right now — and Americans are feeling it. Confidence in finding or keeping a job remains near record lows, according to the latest LinkedIn Workforce Confidence survey.

For job seekers, the outlook is especially bleak. Confidence in landing a new role sits at +6 on a scale from -100 to +100. That’s down from +16 last August and just one point above an all-time low. In March, job seeker confidence dropped to +5 for the first time, and while it briefly ticked up in the spring, it fell back to +5 in July. For comparison, in April 2020, when the pandemic brought the economy to a standstill, job seeker confidence was at +9.

And it’s not just job seekers feeling the strain. Professionals who aren’t currently looking for work are also less confident than they were during the pandemic. Their score has dipped to +46, down from +54 last August and even lower than April 2020’s +48. The recent slide in sentiment reflects broader economic uncertainty.

Do these findings line up with what you’d expect? What’s your best advice for staying competitive in today’s labor market?
