Project: Technical Marketing Engineering for WanAware

Date: September 2024

In September 2024, while I was still in the middle of my job search following a corporate layoff, I received a call from a former colleague who extended an opportunity that couldn’t have come at a better time. He was launching a cybersecurity startup called WanAware and needed someone who could help transform their technical vision into clear, compelling content.

He asked me to step in as a Technical Marketing Engineer, responsible for building the company’s technical marketing foundation — everything from conceptual documentation to enablement materials and investor-facing presentations.

Project Context

At that time, WanAware was a pre-investment, pre-launch startup still shaping its product and architecture. The team was actively developing code based on a collection of brainstorming documents, whiteboard sessions, and conceptual frameworks — but the product was still in its early mock-up and design stages.

My challenge was to take all of these raw ideas and turn them into structured, market-ready deliverables — while also learning an entirely new environment in the process. The solution stack was being built in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), a platform I had little prior experience with, so I began by immersing myself in its architecture and services to accurately represent how WanAware’s technology could be deployed and scaled.

Key Contributions

Over the course of the engagement, I produced a complete set of technical marketing assets, including:

  • 🧭 Architectural & Network Drawings — detailed visualizations outlining proposed cloud workflows, service layers, and data flow patterns across GCP.

  • 🧩 Use Case Documentation — well-defined scenarios and diagrams illustrating how WanAware’s solution addressed key cybersecurity and networking challenges.

  • 📄 Technical Marketing Collateral — clear, audience-focused content designed to communicate complex concepts in accessible, professional formats.

  • 💼 Sales Flyer — a one-page visual asset highlighting the product’s differentiators, technical strengths, and business value for investors and potential partners.

  • 🎓 Enablement Presentation — a comprehensive slide deck loaded with technical specs, configuration guidelines, and best practices to prepare internal teams for early demos and investor discussions.

Outcome and Reflection

This project was a defining moment for me both personally and professionally. It pushed me to learn rapidly, think strategically, and execute with precision in an environment where nothing was fully defined yet.

By translating conceptual ideas into tangible materials, I helped shape the early communication and technical storytelling framework that positioned WanAware for its next phase of development and investment readiness.

It was also a powerful reminder of one of my core strengths — the ability to bridge the gap between engineering and storytelling, turning technical vision into a narrative that investors, engineers, and customers alike can understand and rally behind.
